Women’s Groups

Afghan Women’s Group

The Afghan Women’s group is a support group who have been meeting at the Craig Family Centre for over 25 years. The Group Share Cultural Identity through participation in a range of activities. Each week during the Victoriam school term the women meet to talk discuss and current events, current affairs, cook a meal together or just have a gossip!

G.O.L.D (Growing Older Living Dangerously)

G.O.L.D is a group for friendly, supportive,vibrant and positive women over 55 who are willing to embrace life and all that it entails.  The women enjoy fun & new experiences whilst maintaining a supportive environment filled with sharing knowledge, companionship and time together.

Women’s Only Swimming

Women’s Only Swimming program is a private swimming session for women only. Children welcome (Boys must be under 5 years)

Held at the Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre (8 Warner Avenue, Ashburton)

When:  1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 8:00pm – 10:00 pm.

Yoga classes are held every Wednesday evening. It is a great way to exercise and to learn relaxation. Open to all ages and bookings are essential.

When: Wednesday 7.30 pm – 8.30 pm.

Cost:  $12.00 per session + $20 Annual Membership ($10 concession)

Environment & Sustainability Groups

Growing Together  - Victory Reserve, Markham Ave, Ashburton

(Next to the Markham Ave Public Housing Estate and behind the Cricket Pavilion)

Come and join the garden team!

We grow and share organic vegetables in a communal garden within the plot based Ashburton Community Garden.

When:  Fridays 10:30am -12:30pm

Cost: Annual Craig Family Centre Membership $20 ($10 Concession)

The Ashburton Sustainability Study

The Ashburton Sustainability Study looks at environmental sustainability from a low income perspective. In 2011 Public Housing Tenants living in Ashburton were interviewed to find out what they thought about environmental sustainability and what would make a difference for in overcoming barriers to sustainable practices.

The Sustainable Neighbourhoods Project

Funded by Sustainability Victoria this project ran from June 2010 to June 2012. The project engaged people in the Ashburton / Alamein area through research, educational workshops and a community food forest project.

Ashburton Maternal and Child Health Nurse

A Maternal Child Health Nurse is available to assist mothers with young babies. Also young mothers support groups are available and post-natal depression groups are run from time to time.

The MCH Nurse is available for appointments Monday to Friday.
